Backbone
Stretch
The
backbone is the tube that the fuel tank sits on and runs between the neck
or head and the seat pan. We offer backbone stretch in 1” increments at
no extra charge. A Backbone stretch of 6” with a negative 2” rise
will give you that long stretched out look as if the bike is screaming
100mph while standing still.
Backbone
stretch is and independent dimension and does not move the forward control
locations it only moves the neck or head forward.
The
longer you stretch the bike and or the larger the amount of rise can increases
the wheelbase. This will widen the line that you will take thru curves
due to the wheelbase increase.
There
is a difference between rubber mount frames and solid mount frames and
it is backbone stretch. Rubber mount frames were originally developed around
the HD FXR chassis. The FXR backbone is approximately 2.25” shorter than
a standard softail frame.
Frames
measurements are all based off of factory dimensions.
Because
of the different backbone stretch between a factory rubber mount and a
factory solid mount frame we are describing in detail so the correct measurements
are known so you achieve the look you want.
A
5” Stretch in a rubber mount is approximately 2.75” stretch in a solid
mount frame.
A
3” Stretch in a rubber mount is approximately .75” longer than a solid
mount frame.
